Instructor of The Month March 2007

Pam Steverson
Alamo FAST Defense San Antonio, TX

Growing up, I wasn't picked on any more than the next kid but I did have some confidence issues. More often than not I was the one sticking up for the one that got picked on. Luckily only heated words were ever exchanged.

Since I was about 7 years old I knew I wanted to do martial arts. Finally, just before my 23rd birthday I made a New Years resolution to start attending a martial arts class. At this point I wanted to learn how to kick someones butt if I was ever in a situation where I needed to defend myself. I trained hard and often and enjoyed my training; I still do to this day. However, I wasn't confident I was going to make any fancy technique work in the heat of battle.

Many times throughout my years teaching martial arts people have asked me to teach self-defense classes for home school groups, scouting groups, etc. Each time I felt like I wasn't able to truly give students all of the tools they would need.

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to become a FAST DEFENSE coach and go through the class. Wow! This was it. I had found the mother lode. Now I could help those who wanted to prepare themselves for when things go wrong. No one should ever feel helpless and at the mercy of others.

When my family and I moved to Texas I knew this was something I wanted to stick with but I was only trained as a coach. What to do? My larger half agreed to be a bullet man and I couldn't let him have all the fun, so I got a suit also. Bill and Debra came down and trained us in the basic course and the rest is history. I have a great team of coaches and woofers. Every one of them puts their hearts into this program and believes in what we are doing. We are indeed blessed to be a part of this amazing organization.
